Types of Flanges
We supply a comprehensive range of flange configurations to suit specialized industrial requirements.
Slip-On Flanges
Slipped over the pipe and welded inside and out. These flanges are ideal for lower pressure applications and provide excellent alignment.
- Usage: Low pressure & temperature applications
- Welding: Double fillet weld (inside & outside)
- Bore: Slightly larger than the pipe OD for easy fitting
Weld Neck Flanges
Features a long tapered hub that is butt-welded to a pipe. Excellent for high-stress, high-pressure, and high-temperature environments.
- Usage: High stress, pressure & temperature operations
- Advantage: Smooth transition of thickness from flange to pipe
- Testing: Radiography can easily be done to verify weld integrity
Blind Flanges
Solid flanges used to seal the end of piping systems or pressure vessel openings. Highly stress-resistant.
- Usage: Blanking off ends of piping, valves, and pressure vessels
- Stress: Subjected to highest bending stresses among flange types
- Maintenance: Easily bolted and unbolted for line inspection
Socket Weld Flanges
The pipe is inserted into the socket and top-welded. Suited primarily for small-size, high-pressure piping systems.
- Usage: Small-diameter, high-pressure systems
- Connection: Single fillet weld on the outer side
- Feature: Internal bore of the flange matches the pipe's inner diameter
Threaded Flanges
Attached to pipes without welding by screwing onto the pipe's external threads. Ideal for highly explosive environments where welding is unsafe.
- Usage: Hazardous areas where welding cannot be done
- Limitation: Unsuited for systems involving temperature cycles
- Bore: Internally threaded to match external pipe threads
Lap Joint Flanges
Used in conjunction with a stub end. Easily assembled and aligned, perfect for systems that require frequent dismantling for inspection.
- Usage: Systems requiring frequent dismantling or rapid alignment
- Mechanism: Slides over the pipe, held in place by the stub end
- Advantage: Cost-effective for systems requiring expensive alloy pipes
Flange Facing Finishes
We provide precise flange face finishes to ensure optimum gasket sealing according to industry standards.
Stock Finish
The most widely used finish. A continuous spiral or concentric serration with a roughness typically between 250 and 500 micro-inches (Ra).
Smooth Finish
Shows no visually apparent tool markings. Produced with a 0.06 inch radius round-nosed tool with a roughness of 125 to 250 micro-inches (Ra).
Spiral Serrated
A continuous spiral groove generated by a 90-degree tool. Provides excellent grip for gaskets in high-pressure, high-temperature applications.
Cold Water Finish (Mirror)
An exceptionally smooth finish used specifically for metal-to-metal contact, usually requiring no gasket. Roughness is under 63 micro-inches (Ra).
Standard Dimensional Tolerances (ASME B16.5)
Our strict adherence to ASME B16.5 dimensional tolerances ensures perfect fitment and structural integrity.
| Dimension | Flange Size (NPS) | Tolerance (Inches) |
|---|---|---|
| Outside Diameter (O.D.) | 1/2" to 24" | ± 0.06" |
| 26" to 48" | ± 0.12" | |
| Inside Diameter (I.D.) (For Slip-on and Socket Weld) |
1/2" to 10" | + 0.03" / - 0.0" |
| 12" to 48" | + 0.06" / - 0.0" | |
| Thickness | 1/2" to 18" | + 0.12" / - 0.0" |
| 20" to 48" | + 0.18" / - 0.0" | |
| Bolt Circle Diameter | All Sizes | ± 0.06" |
| Bolt Hole Spacing | All Sizes | ± 0.03" |
